The Women's Wing of the Shanmukhanada Sabha held a Mehndi Competition on Sunday, 11th December. Many young ladies participated in the competition. It was heartwarming to see a high standard of entries. The tracings were so intricate that the judges were impressed and had a tough time deciding the winners. Finally they chose three winners and also awarded a consolation prize.

The judges’ advice to the girls: Mehndi is a good way to earn a living. One can set up a small parlour, even at home, with practically no investment. These days, for every function, a small family get-together, engagement or a large wedding, mehndi has becomes di rigueur. If one hones the skills, advertises by word of mouth, always arrives on time at the function and gives good service, one can build up a good clientele. It also gives you flexibility regarding timings. This enables ladies with a family to do well in the field.

The two judges: one, the HOD in SNDT college in Beautician course and the other, an experienced Mehndi person, who travels abroad to apply mehndi to many families. They gave tips to the students how to choose a design for a particular function and get the best effect in drawing the intricate patterns. It was a satisfying evening.
