The Sabha observed with solemnity and religious piety the 177th Aradhana of Saint
Thyagaraja and the
76th anniversary of the death of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on 30th
January 2024. On
30th January 2004, both the Aradhana of Thyaga Brahmam and Martyrs’ day came on this day
to be
repeated 20 years later. This function immediately followed the Sangeetha Abhishekam to
Lord Rama
while celebrating the Prana Pratishta of Ram Lalla in his Janmasthan of Ayodhya on 22nd
January 2024.
Internationalising Rama, as shown by Thyagaraja by focusing one’s faculties upon him and
chanting
his name is guaranteed to help realise the Lord and attain Moksha. Thyagaraja lived his
entire life by
exemplifying Rama Bhakti. He chanted Rama Nama 96 crores time during his life sojourn.
For him, life
on earth was not defined by material quest, but by the spiritual goal of total
supplication to the highest
power. His life continues to touch ordinary people to walk the path of a virtuous life.
One need not
be musically proficient or an expert in scriptures to reach God. Faith alone is enough.
Bapu also stood
for all value that Rama signified and his prayers were marked by intense devotion to
Rama. Raghupati
Raghav Raja Ram was constantly on his lips.
In the morning session, the Unchavarti was led by Senkottai Hari Bhagavathar to be
followed by
the rendition of the Pancharatna Kritis by the students and teachers of the Sangeetha
Vidyalaya.
In the evening, musicians from across Mumbai assembled in the Sabha to pay homage to
Bapu and
Thyagaraja. Vaishnava Janto and Ram Dhun of Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram were sung before
the five
Pancharatna Kritis were rendered in the traditional Paddhati. Simultaneously, Linga
Abhishekam was
performed with the chanting of Rudram by the priests from Nerul Veda Patashala. Members
attended
in large numbers to witness this memorable event.
